“Keep in mind that you can’t request to have your profile or page verified,” Facebook explained. At the time of the announcement, Tony BrownsJournal had 53,493 FB friends.  Today, that number has rapidly grown close to 100,000 FB friends.

This landmark event is also an important first step in establishing a journalistic standard for the Internet.

“As the Dean Emeritus of the Scripps Howard School of Journalism and Communications at Hampton University, I applaud Facebook for its innovative effort to protect and encourage truth in journalism,” Brown said, as he sincerely thanked Facebook.

Tony Brown, “Television’s Civil Rights Crusader,” according to Black Enterprise Magazine, is a National Association of Black Journalists Hall of Fame 2015-2016 award winner who will be inducted at a luncheon on August 5, 2016 in Washington, DC. He also coordinated the largest civil rights march in U. S. history in 1963 in Detroit, MI that was led by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., during the era of Black-led civil-rights movements, among many other contributions in this arena (for Tony Brown’s professional background, click www.tonybrownsjournal.com/blog/nabj-hall-of-fame-inductee).

Tony Brown is the university dean emeritus and professor of the prestigious Scripps Howard School of Journalism and Communications at Hampton University and he was the first and founding dean, as well as professor, of the School of Communications at Howard University, where he established a highly distinguished academic and professional record. In 2012, Dean Brown was inducted into the Scripps Howard School of Journalism and Communications Hall of Fame at Hampton University.

The priceless contents of the Emmy-nominated Tony Brown’s Journal iconic 40-year national television series has been described by a leading archivist as “the most complete and thoughtful record of African-American opinion” in existence, and it earned the title of the “#1-Rated Syndicated Talk/Educational TV Series” in the nation in 1979. Subsequently, it was picked by the New York Daily News as “one of the top 10 TV series of all time that presents positive Black images.”

Tony Brown’s Journal was sponsored by the Pepsi-Cola Company during much of its tenure as the longest-running, public affairs series which aired on PBS and in syndication on national commercial TV for 40 years. When the series debuted in 1968, it was briefly known as Black Journal.

Today, the Tony Brown’s Journal collection streams 1,000 historic iconic videos, along with newly-minted, digital cutting-edge webinars and includes “The White Girl,” an independent feature film that was produced, financed and directed by Tony Brown. This full-length feature movie stars Troy Beyer of “Dynasty” and Taimak of “The Last Dragon.” At the St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands theatrical premiere in 1988, “The White Girl” succeeded in breaking the house box-office record.
